Sanitation Billing
On June 17, 2008, the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners voted to add four cents to the property tax rate for the purpose of replacing the monthly residential garbage and recycling fee. Beginning in July 2008, the Town of Wake Forest began treating residential garbage and recycling service the same as fire and police service as part of your annual property tax bill.
Curbside Garbage Collection
Household trash is collected weekly. Residents are encouraged to place their rollout cart at the curb before 7 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day. Rollout carts should be positioned at least four feet to the side of the recycling rollout cart to ensure sufficient space for the operation of Republic Waste Services' collection equipment. Recycling
Recyclables are collected weekly, must be separated from household trash, and must be placed in the recycling rollout cart. Yard Waste
Yard waste is described as vegetative matter resulting from landscaping maintenance performed by the homeowner only, including but not limited to leaves, twigs, grass, limbs, hedge clippings, hay/pine straw, pine cones, and logs. Bulk Waste Pickup
Bulk Waste is defined as “refuse including appliances, furniture and other large items weighing in excess of 75 pounds each.” All bulk waste pickups are provided on Tuesdays on an "as needed" basis. To schedule a bulk pickup, please call 919-435-9570 or e-mail Betty Pearce by 2 pm on the Monday prior to the Tuesday pickup. Bulk that is scheduled before 2 pm on Monday is picked up the following day - on Tuesday. For more information, click HERE.
2012 Holiday Schedule
The Town of Wake Forest officially observes a number of holidays each year. On these occasions, town hall is closed and sanitation service schedules are often altered. Please refer to the 2012 Holiday Schedule for updated operating schedules.
- Garbage & Recycling Holiday Operations
The Town of Wake Forest contracts with Republic Services for garbage and recycling collection. Republic does not collect garbage and recycling on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Whenever one of these holidays falls on a weekday, Republic will run that day's garbage and recycling collection route the next day. From that point forward, the week's collection schedule will operate one day later than normal and extend into Saturday. Whenever one of these holidays falls on Saturday or Sunday, Republic will be closed the following Monday. As a result, the collection schedule for the entire week will operate one day later than normal and again extend into Saturday.
