Gas leak closes portion of North White Street

***UPDATE - The gas leak along North White Street has been sealed. The road has reopened, and the evacuation has been lifted.

Emergency personnel are on the scene of a ruptured gas line along the 800 block of North White Street near East Perry Avenue. The gas line was ruptured by construction crews working in the area.

Due to the ruptured gas line, traffic is blocked along North White Street and a portion of East Perry Avenue. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and choose an alternate route.

Homes in the area have been evacuated.

Dominion Energy crews are working to seal off the leak, but there is no timetable on when the road will reopen.
