Crash closes South Main Street/US 1A
***UPDATE - On Feb 4 at 9:51 p.m. a Wake Forest Police officer spotted a motorcycle with no license plate near the intersection of South Main Street/US 1A and Carter Street. When the officer attempted to stop the motorcycle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.
The officer attempted to catch up, but approximately one minute later the motorcycle struck a vehicle at the intersection of South Main Street/US 1A and Windsor Drive causing the driver to be ejected from the motorcycle and crash into a fire hydrant.
The female driver of the motorcycle died from injuries sustained in the crash. Sufficient family notifications must be completed before her name can be released.
The vehicle driver was uninjured.
The crash caused the closure of South Main Street/US 1A between Forestville Road and Forbes Road. The road is expected to reopen by 2 a.m.
The NC State Highway Patrol is investigating this incident.
