Following an extensive search, the Town of Wake Forest is pleased to introduce Tim Watson (photo attached) as its new Engineering Director. A Massachusetts native, Tim comes to Wake Forest with 30 years of experience in the engineering field.

He began his career in 1994 working for his father at Watson Engineering as a CAD Technician and Field Surveyor. There, he was responsible for property research, surveying, and CAD drafting and design on small scale projects.

Shortly after graduating magna cum laude in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology, he went to work with Guerrierre & Halnon, Inc. as a CAD/Survey Technician performing property research and converting field data into survey base maps and property plats.

Tim moved to New Hampshire in 2001 and for the next seven years was employed by Cuoco & Cormier Engineering Associates, Inc. as a Project Manager/Senior Project Engineer designing and permitting various projects, including commercial site plans, subdivisions, and septic, sanitary, and storm sewer systems.

From 2008 to 2014, he worked for the Louis Berger Group, Inc. as a Transportation Designer working on interstate highways, arterial routes, streetscapes, site plans, utilities, and trails.

From 2014 through 2015 Tim served as a Senior Staff Engineer in the Engineering Department for the City of Nashua Division of Public Works (NH) where he managed the final phase of the City's downtown sidewalk improvement project; assisted stormwater, sanitary, pavement, and transportation engineers with their projects; performed engineering plan review for proposed developments; provided design and construction of small city projects; and issued sewer permits.

Tim and his family moved to North Carolina in 2015 when he was named Engineering Manager for the City of Durham Public Works Department. As head of the Engineering Design Group through 2024, he was responsible for designing and permitting various projects for the City, including petition street upgrades, utility extensions, sidewalks, multiuse paths, and stormwater repairs.

Now, as Wake Forest’s Engineering Director, Tim is responsible for protecting the Town's infrastructure through sound engineering practices and identifying potential partnerships to enhance existing or needed infrastructure. He is also charged with ensuring the compliance and accountability of transportation, stormwater, environmental engineering, construction inspection,  and implementation of capital improvement projects throughout the town.

When he’s not working, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife, kids, and dogs, and vacationing on North Carolina’s beaches. He is actively involved in his church and enjoys learning new skills while doing home improvement projects and playing boardgames with family and friends.
