Fire Station #1 collection site to close October 9

The Wake Forest Fire Department (WFFD) announced Tuesday, Oct. 8, that Wake Forest Fire Station #1, 420 Elm Ave., will stop serving as a Hurricane Helene collection site on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 5 p.m.

Thanks to the generous contributions of community members, the WFFD has delivered over 250 pallets of food and other supplies to western North Carolina, along with over 40 pallets of water.

Although Fire Station #1 will no longer serve as a collection site after 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, the WFFD will continue accepting monetary donations online. Cash and checks written to the Wake Forest Firefighters Foundation are also accepted. All monetary donations will be used to support recovery efforts in western North Carolina.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8, monetary donations, including online contributions, cash, and checks, totaled $105,840. Read more>>

Help us support Hurricane Helene victims & first responders

Wake Forest Fire Department Station #1, 420 Elm Ave., will serve as a donation drop off point for the counties in Western NC devastated by Hurricane Helene through 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The full list of acceptable items includes:

  • Bottled Water

  • Money

  • Non-perishable Food (Canned goods, dried foods) ** Food that doesn't need to be cooked.**

  • Gasoline & Gas Cans

  • Diapers (all sizes)

  • Baby formula

  • Toiletries (Toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo)

  • Hygiene Products (Feminine hygiene, deodorant, hand sanitizer)

  • Cleaning Supplies (Disinfectant wipes, bleach, mops)

  • First Aid Kits

  • Flashlights & Batteries

  • Trash Bags

  • Pet Food & Supplies

  • Baby Wipes

  • Water Filters & Purification Tablets

  • Tarps

  • Personal Protective Equipment (Gloves, masks)

  • LP Tanks

  • Charcoal

  • Manual can openers

 PLEASE NOTE - Clothing, blankets, bedding, towels, and plastic storage bins are no longer accepted.

No donation deadline has been set, so donations will be accepted for the foreseeable future.

Crews are periodically delivering shipments of supplies to the western part of the state.

Area residents can also support this worthy cause by submitting online donations.

According to the NC Department of Public Safety, the "best way to help Western North Carolina recover is with a monetary donation" because it offers "the most flexibility to address urgently developing needs."
