Traffic Alert - Capital Boulevard/US 1
***UPDATE - The victim in today’s incident has been identified as Kaitlyn Corona, 23, of Wake Forest.
Police say Corona, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Versa, attempted to proceed on a green light from Purnell Road across southbound Capital Boulevard/US 1 when a 17-year-old male driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan traveling south along Capital Boulevard/US 1 ran a red light at the Purnell/Harris Road intersection and struck Corona’s vehicle on the driver’s side.
The 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, running a red light, careless and reckless driving, driving with a revoked license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and expired registration and inspection.

***UPDATE - All northbound and southbound lanes along Capital Boulevard/US 1 have reopened. In addition, the intersection of Capital Boulevard/US 1 and Purnell/Harris Road is open and fully operational.

***UPDATE - At approximately 8:33 a.m. Wake Forest Police responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash along Capital Boulevard/US 1 at the intersection of Purnell/Harris Road.
There is one fatality, and one person was transported to a local hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.
An investigation is underway. For the next several hours, the intersection of Capital Boulevard/US 1 and Purnell/Harris Road will be closed and all traffic approaching the intersection will be diverted.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and choose an alternate route.
