Wednesday, July 6, 2022 - 10:08pm
At 8:43 p.m. this evening the Wake Forest Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the Northern Wake Senior Center, 235 E. Holding Ave.
According to Wake Forest Fire officials, the fire was caused by a lightning strike. The facility was unoccupied at the time.
Although several rooms and the ceiling were impacted by the fire and smoke, officials say the activation of the building’s sprinkler suppression system limited the spread of the fire and prevented more extensive damage.
Due to the damage, the center will be closed for the foreseeable future. There is no timetable for when it will reopen.
Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
