MLK Community Celebration

MLK Celebration2025 Wake Forest MLK Celebration
Thursday, Jan. 23  |  6:30 pm

Several local churches and community organizations are coming together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during a free, public celebration on Thursday, Jan. 23.

Area residents are invited to attend the observance at 6:30 p.m. at Friendship Chapel Baptist Church, 237 Friendship Chapel Road.

Event Theme

The event's theme will center around one of King's messages - “Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a constant attitude.”

The Wake Forest MLK Committee will offer a slate of contests for students in the Wake Forest and Rolesville schools to recognize their talents. Based on this year's theme, the contests involve creative performance, writing and art.

Fundraising Drive

Each year the Wake Forest MLK Committee plans the activities in our community to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As part of this celebration, students in the Wake Forest and Rolesville Schools and Wake Forest community are provided an opportunity and encouraged to participate in contests for creative writing, art projects, and creative performance based on the current year’s theme.

Previous winners have come from all levels at Wake Forest, Heritage, Rolesville and Franklin Academy. The contests provide the opportunity for our students to showcase their talents.  The contest winners in each category will receive a monetary prize for their entry. In addition, high school seniors have the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship (a minimum of three and maximum of five are offered).

The Wake Forest MLK Committee is appealing to the citizens of the Wake Forest community for financial support to fund these monetary prizes and scholarships in support for our future leaders. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by January 31, 2025.
