Sinkhole closes portion of Purnell Road

***UPDATE - Purnell Road is back open. NCDOT has backfilled the hole and will return later to pave the area.

The portion of Purnell Road is closed from Fairlake Drive to Holly Forest Road due to a sinkhole measuring approximately 10-feet deep (see photos).

Motorists should avoid the area and choose an alternate route.
