Gas leak closes East Roosevelt Avenue, CVS evacuated
***UPDATE - The gas leak along East Roosevelt Avenue has been sealed. The road has reopened, and the evacuation has been lifted.
The information below was distributed at 2:06 p.m.:
Emergency personnel are on the scene of a ruptured gas line along the 300 block of East Roosevelt Avenue. The gas line was ruptured by a construction crew working in the area.
Due to the ruptured gas line, traffic is blocked in both directions of East Roosevelt from South White Street to South Brooks Street. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and choose an alternate route.
CVS, 245 E. Roosevelt Ave., has been evacuated.
Dominion Energy crews are responding and will seal off the leak, but there is no timetable on when the road will reopen.
