Community Celebration of the Arts to offer free food & arts activities for children of all ages

The Wake Forest Public Art Commission, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department, and ARTS Wake Forest are inviting residents to a special Community Celebration of the Arts on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alston-Massenburg Center and Taylor Street Park, 416 N. Taylor St. Free and open to the public, this family-friendly event will include food, music by DJ Supreme, and a variety of arts activities for children of all ages. A special thanks to the Wake Forest Elementary Foundation for sponsoring the kid crafts.

Wake Forest Guild of Artist (WFGA) member Alissa Gaerte will lead three art workshops, comprised of five children each, according to the following schedule:

• 10 a.m. - ages 10-18 will create stamped pendants.

• 11 a.m. - ages 5-9 will create wire wrapped stone pendants.

• Noon - ages 14-18 will generate stamped and textured cuff bracelets.

Meanwhile, WFGA member Erin Day will lead up to 20 children each hour in a sunflower-themed art project. With a nod to the great Vincent Van Gogh, kids will create sunflower collages based on Van Gogh’s famous sunflowers painting. Creating petals, painting flowers, and using construction paper and tissue paper, every participant will leave with a beautiful sunflower artwork that can grace their room or even the family refrigerator.

Throughout the Community Celebration of the Arts, Will and Pops will serve free meals of burgers, grilled cheese, and hotdogs while supplies last, and DJ Supreme will be on site playing popular tunes for fun and dancing.
