Cougar Walk of Champions
The Town of Wake Forest is inviting area residents to a special community celebration in honor of the 2017 Wake Forest High School football team on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 1 p.m.
The "Cougar Walk of Champions" will recognize the team for its consistency on the field, emphasize the school's place in the town's history, and demonstrate the collective sense of pride shared by the Wake Forest community.
Honoring the 2017 4AA State Champs
Last season the Cougars won their second consecutive 4AA state championship. Shortly after the Cougars' championship victory, Mayor Vivian Jones appointed a nine-member committee to plan a celebration honoring the team. For the second year in a row, the committee opted to host the "Cougar Walk of Champions" in downtown Wake Forest.
Cougar Walk of Champions
A walking parade comprised of the WFHS football team and coaching staff, trainers, marching band and varsity cheerleading squad will kick off the afternoon festivities. The procession will depart the Depot Parking Lot, 110 S. White St., at 1 p.m., proceed south along South White Street, turn left at Owen Avenue, and conclude in Centennial Plaza, 301 S. Brooks St.
Upon arriving in Centennial Plaza, the team will be greeted by members of the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners. The ensuing pep rally will include a few numbers by the marching band and brief remarks by local officials and school administrators, including WFHS Principal Patti Hamler and Head Football Coach Reggie Lucas.
Kip Abshire, the WFHS public address announcer, will serve as the program emcee and local DJ Rodney Holmes will be onsite playing a variety of favorite party tunes.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at several downtown restaurants throughout the day.
Cougar fans will also have the chance to purchase WFHS championship t-shirts and other merchandise.
Be a Part of this Community Celebration
The entire Wake Forest community, including fans, family members and supporters of the team, are invited to line South White Street and Owen Avenue to cheer the squad as it makes its way from the Depot Parking Lot to town hall.
Upon arriving in Centennial Plaza, the team will be greeted by Mayor Jones and members of the board of commissioners. The ensuing pep rally will include a few numbers by the band, brief remarks by local officials and school administrators, and more.
