Area high school students encouraged to apply for Wake Forest advisory boards through September 30
Wake Forest-area high school students (grades 9-12) can make a difference in our community by applying for an upcoming vacancy on a Town advisory board. The boards were established to give residents input into what happens in the community and advise the Board of Commissioners (BOC) on matters that affect citizens and their town government.
Applications are being accepted from high school students through Monday, Sept. 30, for appointments to the following boards and commissions:
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC)
Human Relations Council (HRC)
Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Advisory Board
Public Art Commission (PAC)
Technology Advisory Board (TAB)
Urban Forestry Board (UFB)
Each of these boards has at least one seat designated for a high school student.
The online advisory board application is available on the Town website at http://bit.ly/TOWFAdvBoardApplication. Anyone without access to a computer is invited to complete the application by using a computer kiosk in the lobby of Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St. Hard copies are available upon request by contacting Deputy Town Clerk Ella Dowtin at 919-435-9436 or [email protected].
High school students interested in applying for an advisory board should note the following:
You may apply for one advisory board only.
Current advisory board members are not required to re-apply but instead should notify Ella Dowtin at 919-435-9436 or [email protected].
The PRCR Advisory Board has three areas of interest: 1) Programs and Parks; 2) Cultural Arts; 3) Greenways.
All candidates for the HPC must reside within the jurisdiction of Wake Forest. High school students who reside in the Historic District and have an interest in historic preservation are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates are encouraged to attend the October meeting of the advisory board to which they applied to introduce themselves to the current members and explain why they wish to serve. Following these interviews, each advisory board will review its slate of candidates before submitting its recommendations to the BOC. The BOC will announce the advisory board appointments during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19. New terms will commence in January 2025.
Selected applicants for all boards, will volunteer for three-year terms, unless unexpired terms are being filled and advise the board on a variety of topics relating to the Wake Forest community.
