Concern for public safety forces removal of damaged trees near boat launch at Wake Forest Reservoir
Town of Wake Forest crews have closed a portion of the Wake Forest Reservoir Soft Trails near the boat launch to remove three trees damaged during a recent storm. The area is expected to be closed for the next several days.
The removal of the trees will also require the closure of the parking lot accessible via Traditions Grande Boulevard later this week. An exact date and time will be announced later.
The trees have large cavities of decay and must be removed out of concern for public safety. Although the wood is unsound due to decay and pests, the smaller limbs and branches will be chipped up and distributed as wood chips.
Crews will cordon off the affected area with yellow flagging tape. Visitors to the Wake Forest Reservoir are urged to use caution and maintain a safe distance from the work area.
