UPDATE - CSX track repairs to close several Wake Forest rail crossings in March
***UPDATE - This work, which was originally scheduled to begin on or around February 22, is now scheduled to begin on or around February 28. The information below has been edited to reflect the updated schedule.
CSX officials say the Brick Street, Elm Avenue, Holding Avenue, and Friendship Chapel Road railroad crossings will be closed for maintenance on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Rogers Road crossing will be closed on Wednesday, March 1.
The work on all five crossings is tentatively scheduled for completion by Thursday, March 2.
Once the work on the Rogers Road crossing is completed and the crossing and road reopened, CSX will close the railroad crossing on Ligon Mill Road.
Crews will replace railroad ties at each crossing, then resurface the road. The crossings will be closed for 1-3 days pending weather, equipment, and any unforeseen circumstances.
Electronic message boards announcing the closures have been set up to alert drivers. No vehicular traffic will be allowed over the rail crossings during the closure periods, so motorists are urged to avoid the affected areas, plan accordingly, and allow for additional travel time.
In addition, the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is reminding residents that railroad property is private property. Anyone on railroad property without railroad permission is trespassing. To report a problem or emergency, look for the blue Emergency Notification Sign located at the crossing and call the emergency phone number listed on the sign. If you cannot locate the blue sign, dial 911.
CSX officials say the work schedule is subject to change. Updates will be provided as they are made available at bit.ly/WFRRTrackRepairs.
