Wake Forest Unplugged & free concert on as scheduled Sunday at Joyner Park
The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Advisory Board will host the 14th Annual "Wake Forest Unplugged...Get Connected" this Sunday, Sept. 1, from 5-7 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road.
Wake Forest Unplugged invites area residents to disconnect from their smart phones, computers, and other electronic devices and reconnect with their community, friends, and family by engaging in healthier, more active pursuits. From 5-7 p.m., the PRCR Advisory Board will host a variety of organized games and activities, including sack and relay races, corn hole, and miniature golf, in the vicinity of the Walker Garden. For more information about Wake Forest Unplugged, visit https://bit.ly/WFUnplugged.
The electronics-free afternoon will culminate from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a free concert in the Joyner Park Amphitheater featuring Throwback Collaboration Band performing your favorite old-School funky music. With the rich melodies they create, you’d think they’re a group of 12, but they’re merely composed of six brilliant musicians.
As part of Sunday’s event, the following food and dessert trucks will be onsite: El Toro Alebrije Tacos and Tapas, Kona Ice, and Lumpy’s Ice Cream.
Attendees are invited to bring a picnic, leashed pets, blanket, or lawn chair, and enjoy the music. However, alcoholic beverages, smoking, and unleashed pets are prohibited at Joyner Park.
The Breakfast Club will headline the second and final Concert in the Park on Sunday, Sept. 8.
In the event of inclement weather, these events may be canceled. Updated information will be available by 3 p.m. on the day of the concert on the Town website, Facebook page, and Nextdoor site. Smart phone users who have downloaded the Town app will receive a push notification message informing them of any schedule changes. To download the Wake Forest app, visit http://bit.ly/TOWFApp.
