Veterans Day Celebration November 10 at Renaissance Centre
The Northern Wake Senior Center (NWSC) will host a special Veterans Day Celebration for residents ages 55 and older on Thursday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St. The event is free, including lunch, but seating is limited. Registration is required by calling 919-554-4111.
Designed to honor local military veterans, the Veterans Day Celebration will feature vendors and guest speakers addressing a variety of topics, including PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), affordable housing options for veterans, and more.
The highlight of the occasion will be the presentation of five Quilts of Valor and 10 Coins of Valor during a special ceremony. Quilts and Coins of Valor are awarded to service members or veterans who have been touched by war. They are a tangible way of saying “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”
The NWSC is soliciting nominations of veterans to receive a quilt or coin. To nominate a deserving veteran, call 919-554-411 or email Valerie Malloy at [email protected]. Nominations must include the name of the nominee and the branch of the military in which they served, along with a narrative of 300 words or less describing why he or she is deserving of a quilt or coin. Please note: Family and friends of honorees will be invited to attend, including those younger than 55.
