Picture Joyner Park

'Picture Joyner Park' was the name given to the town's approach to updating the Joyner Park Master Plan. Coordinated by the Recreation Advisory Board, the initiative offered area residents a variety of opportunities to share their ideas concerning the future of Joyner Park.

Offering an abundance of gorgeous scenery, including picturesque rolling hills, a majestic pecan grove and a 2,000 linear foot stone ribbon wall, E. Carroll Joyner Park consists of 117 acres. Presently, only 84 of those acres are being used to offer activities. Through the 'Picture Joyner Park' series of public meetings and survey, the town is soliciting the community's input to determine the best use of the park's remaining 33 acres.

It is not the town's intention to disturb Joyner Park's existing charm and beauty but rather to achieve an appropriate balance between maintaining its current appeal and adding much-needed amenities.

Public Meetings

A series of public meetings was scheduled throughout May 2014 to gain citizen input:

• Tuesday, May 6, 6:30 p.m.; Alston Massenburg Center, 416 N. Taylor St.

• Thursday, May 8, 7 p.m.; Wake Forest Presbyterian Church, 12605 Capital Blvd.

• Tuesday, May 13; 6:30 p.m.; Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St.

• Thursday, May 15, 10 a.m.; Northern Wake Senior Center, 235 E. Holding Ave.

• Saturday, May 17, 11 a.m.; Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St.

• Tuesday, May 20, 6:30 p.m.; Hope Lutheran Church, 3525 Rogers Road

These interactive session will include a brief presentation, followed by an open forum discussion where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share suggestions.

Discussions at these meetings will cover a variety of topics centered on how to best achieve the appropriate balance between maintaining Joyner Park's natural charm and adding desired amenities. Information gathered during the sessions will help identify, develop and evaluate future versions of the Joyner Park Master Plan.

Survey
Anyone who was unable to attend one of the public meetings was encouraged to complete the Joyner Park Phase II online survey. The questionnaire was comprised of nine questions and took less than five minutes to complete.

The Town of Wake Forest opened E. Carroll Joyner Park Phase I in August 2009. Located at 701 Harris Road, the 117-acre park is one of our area's most popular outdoor destinations featuring three miles of paved walking trails, a 1,000-lawn-seat amphitheater and performance garden.
